When it comes to transferring files from an iOS device to a computer, iTunes can make life a bit difficult for inexperienced users. Fortunately, you can find numerous third party applications which make this operation straightforward and easy. A good example is ZillaCopy. It allows you to browse through your device's media files, photos and other data and it gives you the possibility of transferring them to your computer at a moment's notice.

The application is free to try for a limited period of time, with only a few minor restrictions. Its setup file is roughly 2 and a half MB and the installation process takes only a few seconds. You can use ZillaCopy on Windows XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, without installing any prerequisite tools.

Once you connect an iPhone, iPad or iPod to your computer, ZillaCopy will detect it automatically. All songs, videos, pictures and other files from the connected device are displayed on a clean and simple user interface. They are neatly categorized in a system of folders and sub-folders, which can be selected in a navigation pane, on the left side of the window.

Media files are listed together with their sizes, as well as a few details from their tags, such as artist, album or genre. All you have to do is select one or more files, click a button and specify an output path. Transferring files from the plugged in device to the computer takes only a few seconds. Additionally, you can set the application to organize the output files in folders and to overwrite files if they already exist.

Finding specific files on a phone or other devices is quite easy. You can either view your entire music library in a single list or access your playlists. Photos are organized in a similar manner. You can access your image libraries and camera roll in separate folders.

Pros

Files can be transferred from an iOS device to a computer in just a few seconds. The application displays a device's files in a well structured folders system. You can navigate through the folders without any effort and transfer your files with only a few clicks.

Cons

The application does not work both ways, so you can't transfer files to your device. With ZillaCopy, exporting files from an iOS device to a computer can be done in just a few seconds with nothing more than a few clicks.
